The Courthouse is a 5 star hotel with flamboyant sophistication situated in the very centre of London opposite Liberty's and Carnaby Street. Its design is drawn from its previous function with the odd quirky feature relating to its former use as the second oldest magistrate's court in England. The 116 roomed, Grade 2 listed building has been renovated retaining many of its original features including impressive Robert Adam's fireplaces. The 13 suites are converted from the judges' robing rooms and the Lalique suite was once part of the residence of the Metropolitan Police Commissioner. The other 103 rooms are in a new wing originally police station and shooting range.
The Courthouse offers fine dining in the Silk restaurant where you can enjoy Oriental fusion cuisine in the old Number One courtroom and see the witness stand, judges' bench and even the dock where the accused such as Napoleon 111 and Sir Mick Jagger have stood. Carnaby's, with its separate street entrance, has a buzzy atmosphere and serves all day Italian brasserie. The Waiting Room is now an elegant, palm-filled atrium where you can partake of breakfast, light meals and afternoon tea, or for an intimate retreat and rendez-vous, try the Roof terrace aand enjoy light meals and snacks overlooking the famous Liberty's store. The aptly named Bar feels like a gentleman's club and includes 3 former Ladies' Cells now upgraded to private booths but retaining the bunk beds and Victorian toilet, now an ice bucket.
The Courthouse's facilities are definitely 21st century but still retain their historic feel. There is a health spa with heated square indoor pool, hot tub, treatment rooms and fully equipped gym. Business guests can avail themselves of the conference centre which has 7 meeting rooms, the largest of which caters for up to 130 delegates. In addition the Courthouse houses Release,its own 100 seat private screening room, the largest in London, which can be made available for business use.
With the Courthouse as a base all of London is within easy reach. The internationally famous shopping area of Oxford Street, Regent Street and Bond Street is on your doorstep, and you are only a short walk from the unique, trendy Covent Garden with its designer boutiques, clubs and restaurants. Theatreland and clubbing are a stone's throw away in the West End and art and culture can be found at the Wallace Collection and Museum of Mankind within half a mile of the Courthouse.
